Temperature monitoring in archaeological animal bone samples in the Near East arid area, before, during and after excavation

Summary In order to estimate experimentally the intensity and amplitude of thermal shocks during and after excavation, we monitored temperatures of archaeological bones on the field at three Syrian sites of the arid steppe, Qaramel, Dja'de and Aswad. Water cleaning and sun drying appear to be the most damaging steps, with temperature variations of ca. 11,000 °C/h and 84 °C/h, respectively. Ancient DNA (aDNA) bone samples kept between −7 and +12 °C from their extraction to the lab suffered much lower thermal variations (6 °C/h). This chapter gives a brief overview of the following types of vehicles: battery electric vehicle (BEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). It then provides a comprehensive summary of the electrochemical energy storage including Ni-MH battery, Li-ion battery, and advanced rechargeable battery. Battery chemistry is explained in a detailed manner including an abbreviated modelling approach. Also, the issues of battery-charging method, management, and monitoring are addressed. The chapter concludes with a discussion on battery cell voltage balancing and temperature monitoring in addition to the battery state-of-charge (SOC) estimation.

Radiation tolerant fiber Bragg gratings for high temperature monitoring at MGy dose levels

International audience; We report a method for fabricating fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) resistant to very severe environments mixing high radiation doses (up to 3 MGy) and high temperatures (up to 230 degrees C). Such FBGs have been written in two types of radiation resistant optical fibers (pure-silica and fluorine-doped cores) by exposures to a 800 nm femtosecond IR laser at power exceeding 500 mW and then subjected to a thermal annealing treatment of 15 min at 750 degrees C. Under radiation, our study reveals that the radiation induced Bragg wavelength shift (BWS) at a 3 MGy dose is strongly reduced compared to responses of FBGs written with nonoptimized conditions. Sentinel 2 and 3 for Temperature Monitoring Over the Amazon

In this work we present results of an early assessment of the performance of the Land Surface Temperature (LST) product retrieved from the Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR) on board the Sentinel-3 satellite (S3/SLSTR) over the Amazon basin. Results are validated from comparison of S3/SLSTR retrievals against in situ measurements of surface temperature collected over one instrumented site in the Peruvian Amazon.
